A History of the Democratic-Republican (now known as Democratic) Party – Part 2 (1960- 2015)

It’s common knowledge that the 1960 election was between Democrat John F. Kennedy and Republican Richard M. Nixon.  But what almost no one knows is that the Democratic Party allowed another Democrat to run in the same election – not the primaries, but actually on the general Election Day, 8-Nov-1960.  Democrat Harry Byrd from Virginia actually got 15 electoral votes by winning Mississippi and Alabama (and one “stray” electoral vote from Oklahoma). [i] Kennedy won the election with strong support of working class Americans, and becomes a beacon of hope among progressives all across the U.S.  But Southern Democrats had an “ace up their sleeve” – they installed Lyndon B. Johnson as JFK’s vice president, setting up a Southern coup d’etat (overthrow of state) which would simply require an assassination of JFK for Southern Democrats to recoup control of the party.

In the first 2½ years of his administration, President John F. Kennedy began to pull troops out of Vietnam, threatened to “splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces,” began to give African Americans voting and civil rights, while also failing to overthrow Fidel Castro as president of Cuba, who came to power after the Cuban Revolution of 1959.  Meanwhile, the conservative Democratic Party, spearheaded by war hawk Lyndon Johnson and many other Southern Democrats, assisted in a CIA plot to assassinate JFK and have him replaced by LBJ, who was much more of a white supremacist and Vietnam war monger than JFK was willing to be. [ii]  Many military contractors were based in Johnson’s home state of Texas, and they easily foresaw that a war in Vietnam would be extremely profitable for them, and would bring great wealth to the “Lone Star” state.

Massive anti-Vietnam War demonstrations took place in major urban centers all over the U.S.  Right-wing blowback, much of it originating from within the Democrat Party, led to the assassinations of Malcolm X in 1965, and Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.

In 1968 the Democratic Party establishment, led by the authoritarian Mayor of Chicago, Richard Daley, rigged the nominating process at the Democratic National Convention, with the assistance of LBJ to ensure no anti-Vietnam War candidate (such as Edmund Muskie and Robert F. Kennedy) would receive the nomination.  RFK was extremely popular after winning the California primary in June 1968, and it was clear at that point that he would go on to easily win the nomination.  RFK’s popularity had a global reach far beyond the borders of the U.S.  But the Democratic Party had made provisions in case of an RFK victory in Los Angeles, colluding with the CIA and other agencies to set up his assassination just minutes after making his victory speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

In the run-up to the Democratic National Convention, over 80% of Democratic primary voters sided with the two anti-war candidates, Sen. Robert Kennedy (D-NY), the victim of the June assassination, and Sen. Eugene McCarthy (D-MN).  As in 1944, the will of the vast majority of the Democratic Party electorate was ignored by party elites. Daley’s backroom maneuvers secured the nomination for a candidate who had not won a single primary — Vice President Humbert Humphrey was installed in much the same way that Harry Truman had been 20 years earlier – once again to defeat the peoples’ will.  The same underhanded, sneaky tactics would be used against Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020.

Daley’s authoritarian manipulation of the process produced chaos and violence both inside and outside the convention. During a convention speech, Sen. Abraham Ribicoff (D-CT) denounced what he described as the “Gestapo tactics” of the Chicago Police Department — tactics that a federal commission later described as a “police riot” orchestrated by the Democrat Mayor Richard Daley. The violence and chaos inside and outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention, not to mention the betrayal of the anti-war sentiments of the electorate by the party establishment, led to the party’s demise that November and six more years of state-sponsored savagery in Vietnam. [iii]

In Los Angeles, the CIA had taken a young, meek, and very innocent Palestinian-American man, Sirhan Sirhan, who had been proven to be very easy to hypnotize with LSD, and made him one of the gunmen who apparently shot Robert F. Kennedy, right after he won the California Democratic Party primary, which would have made RFK a virtual lock to win his party’s nomination to run in the November Presidential election. Sirhan said that he was “drunk” if and when he shot RFK, even by his own admission. To this day, after 52 years in prison, Sirhan still insists he has no memory of the event, as it was done from a hypnotic trance, induced by CIA-contracted Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, a doctor who operated from just across the border in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and frequently used LSD as part of his scientific hypnotic experiments.  Sirhan was clearly framed as the “fall guy” by the CIA, just like Lee Harvey Oswald was set up in the JFK assassination, as he was one of two or three actual shooters in that assassination.  A conspiracy, by definition, is when two or more people plot to carry out a plan, usually a nefarious one. Oswald was set up to be shot by Jacob Rubenstein (aka “Jack Ruby”), a Chicago gangster and good friend and frequent visitor of the Dallas Police Dept., who was invited to the police station that day specifically for the purpose of permanently silencing Oswald by killing him on the spot, as he was being marched our of the police station.

The wildly popular RFK would have been heavily favored to defeat Republican Richard Nixon in November 1968, but Kennedy’s own DNC party bosses were determined to stop him at all costs – in the same way they stopped JFK cold less than five years earlier.

In addition to hypnotizing Sirhan, Dr. Sidney Gottlieb drugged him with LSD by working for the CIA, making him into a real-life “Manchurian Candidate.”  In 1951, the CIA hired the 33-year-old Gottlieb to head up its Project MKUltra  [iv] to develop LSD during the 1950s specifically for the purpose of mind control via hypnosis.  The American government / media complex has been demonizing Palestinians ever since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 (which continues well into 2020), so Sirhan’s Palestinian heritage, as well as one who was rather weak-minded, feeble, innocent, and therefore easily hypnotized, made him their “perfect” candidate for the CIA to set up.

Who were the Democratic Party bosses in 1968?

The Chicago Police riot

Just months after anti-Vietnam War and pro-civil rights leaders MLK and RFK were assassinated (in April and June respectively), on August 28, 1968, around 10,000 anti-Vietnam War protesters gathered in Grant Park, Chicago for a demonstration, intending to march to the International Amphitheater where the convention was being held.  At approximately 3:30 p.m., a young man lowered the American flag that was there. The police broke through the crowd and began beating the young man, while the crowd pelted the police with food, rocks, and chunks of concrete. The chants of some of the protesters shifted from “hell no, we won’t go” to “pigs are whores”. [v]

Tom Hayden, from California, one of the leaders of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) [vi], encouraged protesters to move out of the park to ensure that if the police used tear gas on them, it would have to be done throughout the city.  The police soon gained the upper hand after firing tear gas and chased the demonstrators down the streets, beating them with clubs and rifle butts before arresting them. The amount of tear gas used to suppress the protesters was so great that it made its way to the Conrad Hilton Hotel, where it disturbed presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey while in his shower.  The more conservative, far less popular Humphrey had been hand-picked by the DNC to replace RFK after he had been murdered by the political right. The police sprayed demonstrators and bystanders with mace and were taunted by some protesters with chants of “kill, kill, kill”. The police responded by shouting “Get out of here, you cocksuckers!”. The police indiscriminately attacked all who were present, regardless if they involved in the demonstrations or not. Dick Gregory, the African American comedian who permanently sacrificed his successful career to attend the protests, told the crowd that the police were merely following the orders of [Democratic Party] Mayor Daley and “the crooks downtown”.

In the end, the Democratic Party elite chose Humphrey, overriding the will of 80 percent of the primary voters (in those states which held primaries) who had overwhelmingly supported anti-war candidates RFK and Eugene McCarthy.  But the DNC delegates, most of whom had been hand-picked by the party elite, who were much more conservative than registered Democratic voters at-large, had defeated the peace plank decisively by a 3:2 ratio (1,567¾ to 1,041¼). The loss was perceived to be the result of President Johnson and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley influence-peddling behind the scenes, who wanted the Vietnam War to continue in order to continue profligate profits for military contractors.  Being that stock ownership is private, it is unknown how much stock these men held in military contractor corporations. Humphrey, who had not entered any of 13 state primary elections, “won” the Democratic nomination shortly after midnight and many delegates shouted “No! No!” when his victory was announced, but to no avail.  The party’s nomination was watched by 89 million Americans.  A similar scheme would be repeated in 2016 and 2020 when Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, respectively, were hand-picked by DNC party officials (meaning mainly Hillary Clinton herself, and her ultra-wealthy Wall Street donors) overriding Democrat voters’ overwhelming preferences for populist candidates such as Bernie Sanders.

As a sign of racial reconciliation, Humphrey had intended for his nomination to be seconded by a speech by Carl Stokes, the black mayor of Cleveland, Ohio.  Stokes’ speech was not shown on live national television as planned as the networks instead broadcast live the “Battle of Michigan Avenue” that was taking place in front of the Hilton Hotel in Chicago.  Humphrey went on to lose the election to Republican Richard Nixon, who continued the genocidal carpet-bombing war on Vietnam.

History would repeat itself in both 2016 and 2020, when the nomination was rigged against progressive Bernie Sanders, who in polls showed that he would have beaten Donald Trump by about 10%, and given to the highly unpopular Hillary Clinton (who was favored on similar polls by only about 2-3% to beat Donald Trump), who went on to lose to Trump in the November 2016 election. For many decades, the pattern has been that the DNC would rather have a conservative Democrat lose to a Republican, rather than allow a progressive / leftist candidate such as a Henry Wallace, RFK, or Sanders to be allowed to become president. [vii]

At the 1968 Democratic National Convention, network newsmen Mike Wallace and Dan Rather of CBS, and Edwin Newman of NBC were assaulted by the Chicago police while reporting inside the halls of the convention. [viii]

Nancy Pelosi was first elected to Congress in 1987, following her father into politics, Thomas D’Alessandro Jr., who served as a U.S. Representative from Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore,. Thru 2020, she was serving her 17th consecutive term (34 years, encounting). [ix]

As the biggest fundraiser in the Bay area, Pelosi rose quickly to the top of the Democratic Party as she had the biggest house in San Francisco with her financier real estate venture capitalist husband, Paul, using the house to host the biggest fundraisers from wealthy contributors.  In 2018 their listed net worth was $114 million, while her city of San Francisco continued to evict thousands of San Franciscans to homelessness, unable to pay their exponentially increasing rents.  Many have erected cardboard shacks on the sidewalks of the city, while Pelosi has stayed away and done nothing about the massive wealth inequality wreaking social havoc on her home city.

Vince Foster, a lawyer and childhood friend of Bill Clinton’s from Hope, Arkansas, was found dead after he announced on July 20, 1993 that he intended to resign from working at the White House for the Clinton administration, exactly six months after Clinton began his term.  He was last seen alive that day in the White House.  Foster knew a lot, maybe too much, about Hillary Clinton’s involvement in the Whitewater affair in Little Rock, Ark., and the Clintons did not want him to ever talk about it, as they feared that may ruin their political careers.  In a poll, more than 70% of Americans believed that Foster was murdered by a Clinton operative, despite the coroner ruling it as a “suicide.”  Just days before announcing his resignation from the Clinton White House, Foster had given a public speech about the importance of integrity.  Many pre-eminent expert police detectives unequivocally stated that his death was not a suicide, and that the body was moved, indicating a cover-up, and the crime scene tampered with after he supposedly committed “suicide.” [x]  For example, the body was dragged, leaving a trail of blood that was not consistent with a suicide, and the gun was placed tightly in his fingers, which was also not consistent with a suicide, in which case the gun would have dislodged from his hands when falling.

Delaware Senator Joe Biden stood on the floor of the Senate, preaching his “fire and brimstone” crime bill, vociferously going out of his way to prove how much further to the right and harsher he could be in relation to the conservative Republican Party, and he co-wrote the bill that would soon create the largest mass incarceration period in American history.  It would make the U.S. the “prison capital of the world,” and catapult it to the highest per-capita incarceration rate in the entire world, from the early 2000s, up to and including the year 2020… with no end in site.

For the next generation plus, this would double and triple sentences for a host of non-violent crimes, institute mandatory minimum sentences even for trivial “crimes” such as marijuana possession, and result in the privatization of for-profit prisons in more than 30 American states.  This unprecedented mass incarceration has targeted disproportionately African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos, while creating a new wealthy class making new private prison operators richer beyond their wildest imaginations while effectively decimating the family units of these non-white demographics.

March 2008 – In the Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton was considered a cinch to win the Democratic Party nomination, as the party elite’s darling since the 1990s.  But she was being challenged by an up-and-coming young senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, whose father was an African man from Kenya, but he was raised by his European-American mother from Kansas, who raised him mostly in Hawaii, but also in Indonesia.  In early March 2008, as soon as Wall Street banker party elites put their money behind Obama, it immediately catapulted him right past Clinton en route to the Democratic Party nomination, when he would later go on to defeat Republican John McCain to become the 44th President of the U.S.

As California attorney general from 2011-17, Kamala Devi Harris spent years subverting a 2011 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requiring the state to reduce its prison population.

She consistently refused to abide by federal court orders which mandated that she reduce California’s grossly overcrowded prison population, which had ballooned to double the legal limit.  She would often keep people in prison beyond their release dates so that they could be used to fight out-of-control wildfires, because if they were released, according to state law, they would not be allowed to be hired by fire departments because of their criminal records, even if they had extensive experience fighting the fires.  But as long as they were kept in prison, she could used them as slave labor.  The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was passed after the Civil War, banned slavery – but it had one exception – it permitted slave labor in prisons, a federal law which still persists to this day).  Harris took full advantage of this federal law, even violating California state law to do so.

As a result of her record as California AG, Harris was hand-picked by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to be Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020.  Working in tandem with Gov. Jerry Brown, Harris and her legal team filed motions that were condemned by judges and legal experts as obstructionist, bad-faith, and nonsensical, at one point even suggesting that the Supreme Court lacked the jurisdiction to order a reduction in California’s prison population. [xi]

Observers worried that the behavior of Harris’s office had undermined the very ability of federal judges to enforce their legal orders at the state level, pushing the federal court system to the brink of a constitutional crisis. This extreme resistance to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling was done to prevent the release of nearly 5,000 nonviolent offenders, whom multiple courts had cleared as presenting next to no risk of recidivism or threat to public safety.

At its height, California was stuffed to some 200 percent of its designed capacity. There were not enough beds or medical personnel but an extreme excess of bodies. In one prison, 54 prisoners shared a single toilet. Preventable deaths due to substandard and overstretched medical care occurred every five to six days. Suicidal inmates were locked in telephone-booth sized cages for 24 hours at a time, a violation of the U.S Constitution’s barring of cruel and unusual punishment.

By April 2013, just two months from the initial deadline given in that Supreme Court decision, California still had 9,636 prisoners more than the court-imposed ceiling. The state submitted a proposal that involved relocating inmates to fire camps to fight wildfires (although largely untrained), and preventing out-of-state prisoners from being returned to their home states. But upon review, the three-judge panel found that that still left California’s prisons some 4,170 prisoners over the hard limit.

Even the state’s own expert witness had testified years prior that he did not oppose good time credit measures, and that there was no correlation between length of stay and recidivism, meaning that the public was not at risk. Other states—Washington, Illinois, even tough-on-crime New York—had implemented these programs with success. The court found good time credits alone would do more than enough to close the gap, and solve the problem for good. Some 5,385 inmates were eligible for release under good time credits.

But Gov. Brown, with Harris as his defense lawyer, refused. Harris’ office launched into a campaign of all-out obstruction, refusing to answer why they could not simply release low-risk, nonviolent inmates to conform to the Supreme Court’s request. “Defendants offered no explanation, however, why they could not release low-risk prisoners early,” the June 2013 ruling stated.

In late 2014, lawyers from Harris’ office claimed that nonviolent offenders needed to stay incarcerated, lest they lose bodies (slave labor) for fire camps in the wildfire-plagued state, as Jackie Kucinich of the Daily Beast reported. [xii]

As CA Attorney General, Harris was expected to, but refused to prosecute Republican Steve Mnuchin and Democrat George Soros, who were owners of One West Bank, who fraudulently foreclosed on hundreds of thousands of Californians’ homes in 2008-09.  As soon as they paid her off (in the form of legalized bribes called “campaign contributions”), she (coincidentally, no doubt) decided not to prosecute them.  Nothing like “one hand washing the other” in a perfect display of bipartisanship – Democrats and Republicans working together for the betterment of their own political careers – and their own personal wealth – never mind hundreds of thousands of working-class Californians losing their homes… Mnuchin, Soros, and Harris could then can just laugh it off as they add hundreds of millions of dollars more to pad their personal bank accounts.  In 2014, Harris married Los Angeles lawyer Douglas Emhoff, who now have a combined net worth of over $8.4 million, including three homes worth $5.8 million.
